Embryo (Band)

Embryo is one of the most important German Krautrock bands of the 1970s and since 1969 as a music collective active from Munich.

History

The band was founded in 1969 by multi-instrumentalist Christian Burchard and Edgar Hofmann, together with Lothar Meid, after Burchard had met in the mid- 1950s at the age of ten years with Dieter Serfas in court.

Meid left the band after a short time. In its place came Ralph Fischer and other musicians, such as guitarist Al Jones.

Overall, since 1969, over 400 musicians played the music collective embryo, including over again Charlie Mariano, Mal Waldron and Marty Cook. Long-standing members include, inter alia, Roman Bunka (Guitar, Oud ), Uve Müllrich (bass ), Michael Wehmeyer (keyboards ), Lothar Stahl ( Marimba, Drums ) and Jens Polheide (bass, flute).

Embryo, which in 1971 had a first radio hit with the song millipedes, developed within a few years from jazzy Krautrock to a world music band that combines different styles and directions to each other. Many embryo albums emerged on extended concert tours to other continents. The band is also occurred with important musicians of the countries visited by them as Shoba Gurtu, TAS Mani, RA Ramamani, Mahmoud Gania and Okay Temiz.

Müllrich and Wehmeyer left the group in 1980 to form the embryo 's first dissident band called dissidents.

In July 2008, the embryo was awarded the German World Music Award Ruth in 2008, awarded for lifetime achievement at the TFF.Rudolstadt.
