Emden is a village in Logan County, Illinois (USA). The population is 515 (2000 ).
Is named the city after the East Frisian seaport city of Emden. Many emigrants who have settled here, come from the Emsregion.
Geography
Emden geographical coordinates loud 40 ° 18 ' N, 89 ° 29' W40.297777777778 - 89.485277777778 ( 40.297772, -89.485267 ). The place is located south off of U.S. Highway 136 and is diagonally bisected by a railroad track in the former Illinois Central Railroad.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.5 km ², consisting entirely of the country.
History
Emden was founded in 1871 as the former Peoria, Lincoln and Decatur Railroad station. The appointed post office took its service on August 7 of that year.
Demography
At the time of the census of 2000, there were 515 people Emden. The population density was 864.5 people per km ². There were 226 housing units at an average 379.4 per km ². The population consisted of Emden 99.03 % White, 0.19% Native American and 0.78 % from two or more races.
The residents of Emden distributed to 216 households out of which 29.6% were living in children under 18 years. 57.4 % married couples living together, 7.9 % had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.9% were non-families. 29.2 % of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 19.9 % of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size is 2.90 people.
The population was spread out with 25.2 % under the, 7.8 % 18 -24- year-old, 24.9 % 25 -44- year-old, 18.1% 45-64 year olds and 24.1 % under the age of 65 years or more. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 85.3 males. In the over -18s accounted for 100 women, 85.1 men.
