Emerald Island (phantom)

The Emerald Isle is a phantom island which should lie south of Macquarie Island between Australia and Antarctica. In December 1821 to have been seen by ship from Emerald. Supposedly there was a small but very high-altitude or mountainous island between 57 ° or 57 ° 30 ' south latitude and 162 ° east longitude. In fact, it has never existed.

The island still appeared in a 1987 calendar with Atlas, which had been issued by American Express. The plane on the bottom of the ocean at the assumed location of the island was called Emerald Basin.
