Emergenesis

In genetics Emergenesis describes the facts that the inheritance of certain properties may not be based on the sum of individual genes, but also on their interaction (see emergence). Emergenetische properties are not inherited because the required combination of genes will occur due to the recombination in the germ line with high probability not again.

Emergenesis may explain why in some properties in twin studies, the concordance rate for fraternal twins is below 50%, while at 100 % is close to identical twins.

Examples of emergenetische features are:

  • Extraversion
  • EEG alpha frequencies
  • Electrodermal habituation
  • Professional and intellectual interests and talents
  • Creativity
