Emerin

Emerin is a mammalian protein. It is anchored in the inner membrane of the nucleus. This is made possible by a transmembrane domain. Emerin establishes a connection between the lamina and the nuclear envelope.

If the Emerin is not functional, the mechanical stability of the cell nucleus suffers. Especially in mechanically strong beanspruchtem tissue, such as muscle tissue, this results in damage to the cell nucleus and, for example, Emery -Dreifuss muscular dystrophy. This X-linked inherited degenerative myopathy has its cause in the mutant human emerin gene.
