Emerson Whithorne

Whithorne Emerson ( born September 6, 1884 in Cleveland, Ohio, † March 25, 1958 in Lyme, Connecticut) was an American pianist and composer.

Whithorne already performed as a pianist at the age of fifteen. He was then a pupil of Teodor Leszetycki and Robert Fuchs in Vienna and from 1905 to 1907 by Artur Schnabel in Berlin. By 1915 he was living as a teacher and music critic in London, after which he worked until 1920 as editor of an art magazine in St. Louis and then worked as a freelance composer in New York.

He composed two symphonies and five symphonic poems, orchestral pieces The Rain, The Aeroplan and New York at night, a piano and a violin concerto, chamber music, songs, ballets and theater music.
