Emery (mineral)

Emery is an abrasive of fine-grained mixture of corundum, magnetite, hematite and quartz as a natural rock deposits, especially on the island of Naxos.

In the emery grinding technology is now mostly replaced by synthetic corundum as an abrasive or silicon carbide. In loose form, it is still in the polishing of optical glass using.
