Emeryville is a small city in Alameda County in the U.S. state of California, United States. The city is situated on the eastern coast of the Bay of San Francisco between Oakland and Berkeley. In the United States Census 2010, the population was 10,080, representing an increase of 46.5 % from 6,882 in the Census 2000.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.2 km ², of which 3.1 km ² of land and 2.1 km ² omitted ( = 38.02 %) to water.

History

Emeryville was founded on December 2, 1896. It was named after Joseph Stickney Emery, the city, which came during the California gold rush and the area acquired large tracts of land. 1884 Emery was president of a narrow gauge railway called the California and Nevada Railroad.
