Emil Boc

Emil Boc ( born September 6, 1966 in Rachitele, Cluj County ) is a Romanian politician and scientist. From December 2008 to February 2012, he was Romanian Prime Minister. His tenure culminated in the national crisis in Romania in 2012.

Biography

Boc studied history, philosophy and law at the Babeş - Bolyai University in Cluj- Napoca ( Cluj ). He began an academic career and obtained his doctorate in 2000.

End of the 1990s Emil Boc moved the focus of its activities in the political sphere. In 2003 he became a member of the leadership of the Partidul Democrat ( Democratic Party). Since the local elections of 2004 to early 2009 he was Mayor of Cluj- Napoca. In the summer of 2005 was chairman of the Boc Partidul Democrat, whose resignation from the Socialist International, he has operated as well as accession to the European People's Party in 2006.

After the merger of his party with the Liberal Democrat Partidul ( Liberal Democratic Party) under Theodor Stolojan he took over in December 2007, the party presidency of the newly formed Liberal Democrat Partidul ( Democratic- Liberal Party ).

The results of the parliamentary elections in 2008, out of which his party emerged together with the Social Democratic PSD as the winner, Emil Boc was commissioned on 15 December 2008 with the formation of a government after the PD -L- top candidate Stolojan withdrew. On 22 December 2008, the Romanian Parliament elected him with 324 against 115 votes for new prime minister.

On October 1, 2009, announced the PSD coalition with Bocs PD -L and withdrew all its ministers from the government. Background was a dispute over the Interior Ministry. Boc was the dismissal of Interior Minister Dan Nica of the Social Democratic enforced to vacant the office party with a friend.
