Emil Brix

Emil Brix ( born 1956 in Vienna) is an Austrian diplomat and historian.

Life

Emil Brix studied English and History at the University of Vienna. Since 1982 he has worked in the diplomatic service of the Republic of Austria. From 1984 to 1986 he was club secretary in the ÖVP parliamentary group, from 1986 to 1989 in the Office of the Minister of the Federal Minister for Science and Research Hans Tuppy.

From 1990 to 1995 he was Consul General in Krakow, from 1995 to 1999 director of the Austrian Cultural Institute in London. By early 2010 he was Head of the Cultural Policy at the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs. Since April 2010, Emil Brix Austrian Ambassador in London.

Emil Brix is vice chairman of the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe.

Awards

On 26 January 2009 Award of the gallery of the International Cultural Centre in Krakow with the Gloria Artis Medal for Cultural Merit by the Polish Minister Emil Brix of Culture and National Heritage, Bogdan Zdrojewski. The medal is the highest Polish distinction, which is awarded to outstanding individuals who have made ​​outstanding contributions to Polish culture in the arts, or for the preservation of cultural heritage.
