Emil Frommel

Wilhelm Emil Frommel ( born January 5, 1828 in Karlsruhe, † November 9, 1896 in Plön ) was a German Protestant theologian and popular writer.

Life

Wilhelm Emil Frommel, eldest son of the painter Karl Ludwig Frommel and the pastor's daughter Jeanne Henriette Gambs, studied in Halle, Erlangen and Heidelberg theology. In 1848 he took part in the fraternity as revolutionary unrest, but distanced himself that later. In the years 1850-1852 he held the office of vicar in Altlußheim at Heidelberg. After a nearly year-long trek through Italy with his brother Max, he received until November 1854 Parish in Altlußheim. After that he was appointed to the court and city vicar in Karlsruhe and in 1861 to pastor. In 1864 he became pastor in Barmen at the Old Church Wupperfeld. Here Frommel founded in 1866 one of the first mixed church choirs in German-speaking, later to Wupper fields Kantorei.

In 1869, Frommel was appointed as pastor to the garrison church in Berlin, where he was in 1872 appointed court preacher.

At the Franco-German War 1870/71 he took part as a military chaplain under General August von Werder. He was over six months in Strasbourg Field Division priest and returned to Berlin on June 16, 1871.

He married on 25 August 1853 in Karlsruhe Amalie Bähr ( 1833-1915 ), the daughter of the Ministerial Council of the Evangelical Church section in Karlsruhe Bähr. Half a year after his 25 -year tenure anniversary at the Garrison Church in Berlin, he had to undergo a serious operation. Of which greatly weakened, he asked for his release and went to recovery to Plön. After two more surgeries in Plön he died and was buried in Berlin on the Old Garrison Cemetery.

Family

Emil Frommel was the grandson of the preacher Christian Carl Gambs (1747-1822) and an uncle of the theologian Otto Frommel (1871-1951), the father of the writer Wolfgang Frommel and Gerhard Frommel the composer.
