Emil Ruder

Emil Ruder ( born March 20, 1914 in Zurich, † March 13, 1970 in Basel ) is considered one of the most influential teachers of the typography of the 20th century.

Rudder graduated from 1929 to 1933 trained as a typesetter. After studying in Paris, he studied from 1941 to 1942 at the School of Applied Arts in Zurich. He taught from 1942 typography at the general trade school in Basel and in 1965 its director. He held until 1970 The Office.

Emil Ruder wrote frequently for typographical month sheets and in 1962 co-founded the International Center for the Typographic Arts in New York.
