Emil Schürer

Emil Schurer ( born May 2, 1844 in Augsburg, † April 30, 1910 in Göttingen ) was a German Protestant theologian.

After studying at the University of Erlangen, the University of Berlin and the University of Heidelberg from 1862 to 1866 he was professor 1873 associate professor at the University of Leipzig and finally in 1895 a full professor at the University of Göttingen. In 1876 he founded the Theological Literature Newspaper, whose editor he was. From 1881 to 1910 he published them together with Adolf Harnack.

His detailed work on the history of the Jews in the time of Christ ( history of the Jewish people in the age of Jesus Christ, 2 volumes, 1886-1890; revised in 3 volumes, 1901-1902 ) made ​​him in the United Kingdom and the United States one of the most famous modern German scholars. He died after a long illness on April 30, 1910.
