Emile Kuri

Emile Kuri ( born June 11, 1907 in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico; † 10 October 2000 in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California ) was a Mexican Designer.

Life

Kuri began his career in the late 1930s. His early work included Hopalong Cassidy some adventure movies with William Boyd in the title role. In 1945 he worked on Spellbound first time with Alfred Hitchcock, together, in the following two years he worked at The Paradine Case and Rope with. In 1946 he was for Frank Capra at the film classic Is not life beautiful? operate; even with this, he worked in the following years together several times. In 1950 he received his first Oscar for William Wyler's The Heiress, after he had been nominated in 1943 for the first time.

From the 1950s Kuri worked mostly for Disney; next to the television series Disneyland, where he participated 1955-1970, he was involved in numerous classic Disney movies. For the Disney adaptation of Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in 1955, he received his second Oscar, he also was nominated this year for Robert Wise's The schemers. He received further Academy Award nominations in subsequent years for the Disney productions The Flying Pauker, Mary Poppins and The daredevil flying witch in her bed. Kuri was at Disney last head of the art department and was also responsible for the equipment of the theme parks in addition to film and television productions. In 1972 he retired from the film business.
