Émile Prudent

Émile Prudent ( born April 4, 1817 in Angoulême, † 1863 in Paris) was a French pianist, composer and music educator.

Life and work

Émile Prudent, which was entered in the birth register of Angoulême under the name Gautier - Racine, received his first piano lessons from his uncle, the organist of the Cathedral of Angoulême, Claude Victor Prudent. From 1826, he attended the Conservatoire de Paris. He was there piano student of Pierre Zimmermann and received in 1833 the first prize in piano.

After Prudent had the Austrian virtuoso pianist Thalberg experienced during its concerts in Paris in 1835, he perfected his technique after his example and began in 1837 a career as a traveling virtuoso pianist.

In addition to more than twenty piano arrangements of popular contemporary operas Prudent composed numerous predominantly technically demanding piano pieces.
