Emilie Lieberherr

Emilie Lieberherr ( born October 14, 1924 in Erstfeld; † 3 January 2011 Zollikerberg; homeland justified in Zurich and Nesslau ) was a Swiss politician.

Life

The daughter of a machinist from the Toggenburg and an Italian mother grew up in Erstfeld, where her father worked as a Railway employee. She attended Catholic boarding Theresianumgasse Ingenbohl and completed the trade diploma. She then worked for three years as a secretary at Union Bank of Switzerland in Zurich. In 1947 she graduated from the Matura trade and worked for four years as a personal trainer at the Oscar Weber AG in Bern. From 1952 to 1956 she studied as a student of Economics at the University of Bern and graduated with a licentiate. After graduating she went by ship to the United States, where she held various positions during two and a half years, including at the family Fonda in New York as a nanny for Peter and Jane Fonda.

From 1960 to 1970 Dear worked as professional school teacher for the sales staff in Zurich. In 1965 she received his doctorate from the University of Bern. In 1961 she co-founded the Consumers Forum Switzerland, which she presided from 1965 to 1978. In 1969 she was co-initiator of the magazine checking, with whose editorship it also held initially.

Towards the end of the 1960s Lieberherr fell for the first time on political, as it became one of the leading figures in the fight for women's suffrage in Switzerland. In 1969 she was president of the Action Committee for the march to Bern. She joined the SP and was from 1970 until her retirement in 1994 as the first woman councilor of the city of Zurich and Head of the Social Welfare Office in Zurich. Until 1978 she was re-elected with the support of the SP, after a falling out with the party in 1982 and 1986 with the support of the Zurich Trade Union Confederation. In 1990, she supported instead of the SP candidates finally selected Josef Estermann the incumbent Mayor Thomas Wagner ( FDP) during his campaign for the city Bureau.
