Emilie Zumsteeg

Emilie Zumsteeg ( born December 9, 1796 in Stuttgart, † August 1, 1857 in Stuttgart) was a German composer, music teacher, choir director, pianist and music writer.

Life

The daughter of Johann Rudolph Zumsteeg, concertmaster at the Württemberg court and his wife Luise, born Andreä received early lessons in piano, voice, basso and score reading. After several gigs, she decided on a career as a music teacher. Soon, she founded the first women's Liederkranz in Württemberg, were recruited among other things, her singing students. They also contributed to the "Musical people sheet ", a character appearing at this time in Stuttgart music magazine. Her compositional work includes works for piano and choir. King Wilhelm I of Württemberg praised her musical work with an annual salary. In addition to its influence on the musical life in Stuttgart she was also in regular contact with Franz Liszt, Edward Moerike, Gustav Schwab, Justinus Kerner and Carl Maria von Weber.

Emilie Zumsteeg died on August 1, 1857 in Stuttgart. She was buried on the Hoppenlaufriedhof. Today, she and her work in the general public is forgotten. Your mostly of manuscripts existing estate is kept in the Württemberg State Library. The Stuttgart Cultural Center " meeting place Rotebühlplatz " has named one of its function rooms for her.
