Emilio Villanueva

Emilio Villanueva Penaranda ( born November 28, 1882 in La Paz, † May 14, 1970 ) was a Bolivian architect.

Family

His parents were José Villanueva (1831-1882) and Maria Penaranda ( 1852-1942 ). His brother, Jose Gabino Villanueva, was a South American surgeon who in 1925 was elected Bolivian president, but after the cancellation of the election, the office could not compete. Regardless of all odds (his father died in the year of his birth ) Emilio Villanueva has made a successful career in business and politics.

Career

In 1907 he studied architecture at the University of Santiago de Chile. He was in 1914 involved in the planning and construction of the military school of La Paz, 1916 planning and construction of the Hospital General in La Paz in 1926, he designed and constructed the Bolivian Central Bank building. After a stay in Paris, he introduced in 1927 by the urbanization of the Miraflores in La Paz. In 1930 he designed and built the stadium Estadio Hernando Siles.

Villanueva was Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and in 1929 rector of the Universidad Mayor de San Andres, La Paz 1930, he was appointed Minister of Education. He founded the School of Architecture Universidad Mayor de San Andres.
