Emily de Vialar

Émilie de Vialar ( born September 12, 1797 in Gaillac, † August 24 1856 in Marseille) was a French mystic and foundress. She is worshiped by the Roman Catholic Church as a saint.

Émilie de Vialar was born as the eldest daughter of four children of wealthy spouses Baron de Vialar and Antoinette portal. After attending primary school in Gaillac, she moved to a finishing school in Paris. After finishing her education and her mother's death, she returned home and took over the education of her youngest brother. A marriage rejected the pious young woman despite fierce disputes from her father. She devoted herself to charitable works and used an inherited fortune from her grandfather about 1832 a house in Gaillac to purchase. There she founded the Congregation of the " Soeurs de St -Joseph de l' Apparition" ( Sisters of St. Joseph of appearance ), which in 1835 received episcopal approval. The sisters were dedicated to the health and care of the poor, they traveled to Algeria, for example, when a cholera epidemic to take over the care of the sick.

The Congregation was particularly supported by the Bishop of Marseille, which led Émilie de Vialar the parent company in 1852 to relocate there. In the 24 years in which the founder governing the Order he spread out in more than 40 offices in Western Europe, the Mediterranean, the Balkans, and the Middle and Far East. At her death in 1856, the first branch was established in Australia.
