Emir Sultan Mosque

The Emir Sultan Mosque (Turkish: Sultanahmet Camii Emir ) is a mosque in Bursa, Turkey. The first building dates from the 14th century, under Mehmed I, 1804, the mosque was commissioned by the Ottoman Sultan Selim III. rebuilt, and again in 1868, the recipe has been changed slightly in each case. The namesake of Emir Sultan (* 1368, † 1430), also known as Şemseddin Muhammad Ali el- el Hüseyin Buhari, was a dervish and students from Bukhara and also a consultant and son of the Ottoman Sultan Bayezid I..

The present mosque that bears the nickname Emir Sultan and is located in district Emir Sultan in Bursa, was built after the original building was collapsed in an earthquake in 1766. Although building materials and place of construction have been retained, the style has been adapted to the Baroque style, which came into fashion during the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century. After the earthquake of 1855 Mosque and the Mausoleum of Emir Sultan in 1868 by Sultan Abdulaziz were rebuilt.

The mosque and the mausoleum opposite each other at a large courtyard with a large pool in the entrance area. The inputs of the courtyard are the east and west, access to Mosque and Mausoleum is via the courtyard. Hölzernde arcades with pointed arches surround the courtyard and rise to portals with high domes.

In the south of the mosque consists of a large, domed prayer hall square base of masonry. At their corners in the north are two minarets. The Mausoleum, on the opposite side of the central courtyard to the north, consists of a domed hall in the center and smaller rooms on the sides and contains the graves of Emir Sultan and his family. Other rooms on the northern corner of the courtyard are used by the Imams. An old cemetery covers the lower hills of the complex. Hundi Hatun, the wife of Emir Sultan and daughter of Bayezid I, the hammam was built south of the mosque. Numerous historic fountains are scattered around the complex ( Kulliye ) around; the oldest dates back to 1743.

In Darmstadt, a sister city of Bursa, also a mosque is named after Emir Sultan, Emir Sultan Mosque (Darmstadt).
