Emma Livry

Emma Livry (* September 24, 1842 in Paris, † July 26, 1863 in Neuilly -sur- Seine) was one of the greatest ballerinas of the Romantic period.

Already in 1858, at the age of 16, she danced, inspired by Marie Taglioni, in Paris very successful the Sylphide. Equally successful was their performance in Félicien David's opera Herculaneum (1859 ). 1860 Marie Taglioni choreographed her only ballet Le Papillon for Livry in which Emma embodies a butterfly. Seemingly weightless "fly" it through the stage and so draws the audience in its spell.

At a stage rehearsal for a new production of the opera La muette de Portici by Daniel- François -Esprit Auber at the Paris Opera, where she played the dumb starring Fenella, she retired on 15 November 1862 in too close to the limelight strong burn injuries to, which she succumbed in 1863.
