Emma Lou Diemer

Emma Lou Diemer (* November 24, 1927 in Kansas City ) is an American composer and music educator.

Life

Her studies conducted at several universities and conservatories and many professors. She studied at the Yale School of Music and in 1949 reached the Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in 1950. From 1952 to 1953 she studied under the Fulbright program in Brussels composition. She then returned to the USA and received his doctorate in 1960 at the Eastman School of Music. She studied with Paul Hindemith, Ernst Toch, William Gant piano and Edna Scotten Billings organ.

From 1959 to 1961 she worked for the Ford Foundation Young Composers Project. From 1964 to 1965 she was the composer advisory Contemporary Music Project of Music Educators. The University of Maryland appointed her for the years 1965-1970 to assistant professor of music theory and composition. From 1971, they convened the University of California at Santa Barbara as Professor of Music Theory and Composition until 1991. Starting in January 1991 had them as Professor Emeritus at the same institute. Since 1940, she has also worked as an organist in the First Presbyterian Church in Santa Barbara and has held this post until 2002.
