Emma of France

Emma of France ( * 894, † 934) was a West Frankish queen.

Emma was the daughter of King Robert I and his wife Beatrice of Vermandois. In 921 she married Duke Rudolph of Burgundy, who followed his father as king of the 923 West Frankish Empire. The couple had one son, Louis (* 934), which, however, lived only a few years.

Emma is the first West Frankish Queen whose coronation was documented in writing. She was not crowned with her husband, but only a few months after him in the autumn of 923 in the cathedral of Reims by the Archbishop of Reims. A circumstance for holding the chroniclers of their time worth mentioning.

Emma died in giving birth to her son Louis after she still supported her husband in subduing a revolt of vassals.
