Emmanuel Laroche

Emmanuel Laroche ( born July 11, 1914 in Clamart, † 16 June 1991) was a French linguist, his specialty was the ancient Anatolian languages ​​(Indo- European and Hurrian ).

Laroche studied at the École normale supérieure. He specialized in the languages ​​and cultures of ancient Anatolia, especially Hittite. After teaching in Nancy from 1942 to 1945 he taught from 1946 to 1972 at the University of Strasbourg, in parallel, since 1954 at the École Pratique des Hautes Études. From 1965 to 1975 he was director of the Institut français d' to archéologie d' Istanbul. From 1973 to 1985 he was professor of languages ​​and civilization of Asia Minor at the Collège de France.

Laroche was also active in archeology, including 1971-1982 in Meydancıkkale at Gülnar in Cilicia ( southern Turkey ).
