Emmanuel Saez

Emmanuel Saez (* November 26, 1972 ) is a French economist. Saez is Professor of Economics at the University of California Berkeley. He is a graduate of the École normale supérieure (Paris) and received his PhD in 1999 at MIT in economics.

Research

Saez works on wealth and income inequality, and income taxes. He highlighted the top earners in the focus of his studies. His studies on the distribution of wealth and income led to theories about the Great Compression and the Great Divergence. His investigations have given impetus to research on the ideal distribution of wealth. Together with Facunda Alvaredo, Anthony Barnes Atkinson and Thomas Piketty, he works in the course of this research at the World Top Income Database.

Awards

Saez in 2009 received the John Bates Clark Medal, 2010, a MacArthur Fellowship and the Prix du meilleur jeune économiste de France.
