Emmerich Danzer

Emmerich Danzer ( born March 15, 1944 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian figure skater, who started in a single run. He is the World Champion from 1966 to 1968 and European Champion 1965 until 1968.

Biography

Emmerich Danzer began at the age of 5 years with the figure skating. He went to a Catholic Piaristen School in Vienna. Since 1953, Herta Wächter was his trainer.

Emmerich Danzer was from 1965 to 1968 four times European champion and three-time world champion from 1966 to 1968. He was regarded as compulsorily as kürstark and charismatic. An Olympic medal he did not win though. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1968, he went as a favorite at the start, remained at a compulsory figure, however, almost stopped and then could not perform properly it. This duty figure was then rated very low. He remained only accommodate 4 Even the best freestyle could not help to get on the podium it. The audience did not agree with this decision. But unlike many other skaters he did not feel cheated out of victory.

1966 and 1967 he was Austria's sportsman of the year. Some years he was - secretly - a relationship with the East German runner Gabriele Seyfert.

1968 to 1975 he turned professional and appeared at the Vienna Ice Revue and Holiday on Ice. 1975-1989 he worked as a trainer in the United States. He also sang some records.

Since 1989, Emmerich Danzer has been working at an insurance company where he is responsible for insurance sports activities and sports sponsorship. From 1995 to 1997 Emmerich Danzer was President of the Austrian Figure Skating Association. Since 2000 he has been President of the Vienna Ice Skating Association.

Together with Ingrid Wendl he commented years figure skating at the Austrian TV station ORF.
