Emmet County (Michigan)

Emmet County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Petoskey.

Geography

The County is located in the extreme north of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, on the west by Lake Michigan, one of the five Great Lakes, and has an area of ​​2285 square kilometers, of which 1073 square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Cheboygan County, Charlevoix County and on Lake Michigan to the Mackinac County.

History

Emmet County was formed in 1840 from parts of Mackinac County. It was named after the Irish patriot Robert Emmet.
