Emnilda

Emnilda (also Emnildis or Emnild; * to 973; † around 1017 ) was by her mother a kindred with the Saxon noble daughter of the Sorbian prince Dobromir from Lausitz. She was by marriage from 987 Duchess and Queen of Poland from 1000.

Life

Emnilda was the third wife of the Polish ruler Bolesław I the Brave, whom she married in the year 987. Thietmar of Merseburg praise for Emnilda suggesting their high reputation and its great influence on Piastenhof.

From the marriage with Bolesław more children were born:

  • Daughter NN (c. 988; † after 1013), abbess of a monastery unidentified;
  • Reglindis (c. 989; † after March 21, 1016 ), married in 1002 with Margrave Hermann von Meissen;
  • Mieszko II (* 990, † May 10, 1034 ), from 1025, King of Poland, married in 1013 with Richeza, niece of Emperor Otto III. ;
  • Daughter NN (c. 995; † after 1018), married between 1009/1012 with Sviatopolk I, Grand Prince of Kievan Rus;
  • Otto ( * 1000, † 1033 ), from 1031/1032 Duke of Poland;
