Emopamil binding protein

The Sterol-Δ8/7-Isomerase (also emopamil binding protein (EBP ) ) is the enzyme that catalyzes the rearrangement within the sterol present in the 8-position of double bond in the 7-position. This reaction takes place in the context of cholesterol biosynthesis in all eukaryotes. Is a transmembrane protein that is localized to the endoplasmic reticulum. Mutations in the EBP gene of the people are the cause of a type of chondrodysplasia punctata, known as Conradi - Hünermann syndrome.

Catalyzed reaction

Zymosterol is rearranged to 5α - cholesta -7 ,24 -dien- 3β -ol.
