Emperor Daizong of Tang

Daizong Tang (Chinese唐代宗; † 779 ) was in the years 762-779 Emperor of China.

Tang Daizong ascended in the year 762 after the almost simultaneous death of Emperor Tang Xuanzong and Suzong the throne. This was preceded by the An- Shi Rebellion, in the devastated a large part of the empire and probably more than half of the population had perished. Especially the areas in the north- east of the empire and to the west, Sichuan, but other areas were military commanders or governors ruled by regional, which were de facto independent and inherited their power to their sons. In the year 763 the capital Chang'an was sacked by the Tibetans.

In order to improve at least the public finances, manipulated the first minister in the years 764-777, Yuan Zai, the salt tax, whereupon the financial situation of the state improved, but not nearly as good was like before the war. The restoration of imperial authority throughout the territory of the Reich did not allow the government finances continue.

Under Emperor Daizong the renewed rise of eunuchs began in high offices of state. Daizong put a civilian eunuchs Commissioners. To have yourself a powerful military force at hand, Daizong also created, which consists of eunuchs gods force army, which formed the core of the new palace troops.

Daizong died in 779, his son Li Shi Emperor ascended the throne Dezong.
