Emperor Duzong of Song

Song Duzong (Chinese度 宗pinyin Dùzōng; * 1240, † August 12, 1274 ) was the 15th emperor of the Song Dynasty, and thus the sixth emperor of the Southern Song Dynasty. He ruled the Empire of China from 1264 to 1274. He was a nephew of his predecessor, Emperor Lizong, who died childless.

His reign was marked by internal troubles and confrontations with the Mongols. Duzong gave it the business of government largely to his chancellor Jia Sidao. This tried securing the primacy of civilian leadership to the armed forces and decreed repeated audits of the military leaders, which put their loyalty to the imperial house to a severe test. When the war against the Mongols in 1268 flared up again, many song - commander gave up without a fight the Mongols. Emperor Song Duzong died shortly after a decisive defeat against the Mongols at Xiangyang. Was succeeded by his four year old son Gong.
