Because of the impact of the Ōnin War, during the Sengoku period, the imperial family was so poor that the official ceremony of coronation for financial reasons could not be completed. On March 22, 1521, 21 years after he took office, he was formally crowned by donations from Hongan Temple (本 愿 寺) and the Muromachi shogunate.
