Emperor Sutoku

Sutoku (Japanese崇 徳 天皇, Sutoku - tennō, * July 7, 1119; † September 14, 1164 ) was the 75th Tenno of Japan ( 1123-5 January 1142. ). His proper name was Akihito (顕 仁).

He was officially the first son of Toba- tennō, but some represent that he was truly a son of Shirakawa- tennō. The relationship between Sutoku and Toba was not good.

Sutoku caused 1156 Hōgen Rebellion (保元の乱, Hōgen no ran), which he lost, however. After that, he lived in exile, where he died 1164. His mausoleum stands on the mountain Shiramine near Takamatsu ( Kagawa Prefecture ).
