Empoli F.C.

The FC Empoli ( officially: Empoli Football Club SpA) is an Italian football club from Empoli, one located in the Tuscany town with 45,104 inhabitants. The traditional club color is azure blue. The club plays its home matches at the 19,847 -seat Stadio Carlo Castellani.

History

In August 1920, the FC Empoli and the football division of the U.S. Empolese was founded, after the tournament of San Miniato, in which the teams were up against each other, the two football clubs joined to form one, and took over as a result the name of the FC Empoli. In the season 1921, the FC Empoli but did not take the first time in a championship in part, for financial reasons, as originally planned, in the highest Tuscan Championship, but only in the third highest. The club remained in the sequence, a provincial club, who took part in the third and second highest championship of Tuscany.

In September 1931, the club Associazione Sportiva Fascista in Empoli renamed, and five years later, a re-naming in Dopolavoro Empoli, now in its highest regional league. In the season 1937/38, Dopolavoro Empoli played his first season as a professional team in Serie C. In August 1938, the name was changed once again in Dopolavoro Interaziendale Italo Gambaccioni Sezione Calcio.

Only three years later, in September 1941, the club was again renamed, this time in AC Empoli, three years later, the club was awarded in November its final name FC Empoli - after in October before but the name Gruppo Sportivo Azelio Landi as the new name was talking.

1945/46, the FC Empoli rose for the first time in Serie B on, five years later, however, again. Another five years later, in the 1955/56 season, even followed the descent into the D series ( at that time still called Series IV ). It took six seasons, before FC Empoli was able to return in the C series again.

1982/83 the club is rising for the second time in club history in Serie B on. Only three years later, they celebrated the first promotion to Serie A. There, however, could hold only two years his position and is passed from the Serie A in the sequence up to the Serie C1.

1995/96 play-off beat Empoli Serie C1 Monza and Como each twice with 1:0 returned to the B series. This season also promptly tried and failed to climb in the series A.

In recent years, Empoli became a classic Elevator team that oscillates constantly between the highest two Italian leagues. In the season 2004/05 FC Empoli managed to re- promotion to the top Italian league. At the end of relegation in Serie A was clearly achieved with table eleventh place. Following the judgment of the manipulation scandal it was even enough for eighth place in the table. 2006/ 07 won the club then an excellent seventh place in the table and qualified directly for the UEFA Cup. There, however, the team was defeated in the first round of the FC Zurich and had to stay in the same year as the Eighteenth to the table in the B series. There won Empoli 2008/ 09 the fifth and failed in the play-off at Brescia Calcio. 2009/10 of 10th place was reached.
