Empress Michiko

Michiko (Japanese皇后 美智子, Kogo Michiko, German "Kaiser wife Michiko ", born October 20, 1934 in Tokyo as Michiko Shoda (正 田 美智子, Michiko Shoda )) is the Empress of Japan.

Michiko Shoda born married on April 10, 1959 Akihito, then Crown Prince of Japan, who ascended the throne in 1989. With him she has three children:

  • Crown Prince Naruhito ( born February 23, 1960)
  • Prince Akishino ( Fumihito; born November 30, 1965)
  • Princess Nori ( Sayako; * 1969 )

Life before marriage

Empress Michiko was born in Tokyo as the eldest daughter of Hidesaburo Shoda and Fumiko Soejima. She attended Futaba Elementary School in Tokyo. This, however, she had to leave during the 4th grade due to the increasingly frequent bombings of Japan during World War II by the United States. After the defeat of Japan, she attended the Seishin High School in Tokyo.

After completing this, she attended the University of Seishin Girls (圣 心 女子 大学, Eng. University of the Sacred Heart ) in Tokyo, where she took off the 1957 Bachelor of Arts in English Literature.
