Empress Shi

Empress Shi (Chinese史 皇后, maiden name unknown; * to 1) was an empress during Xin Dynasty. Her father was the official Chen Shi (史 谌). She married the Emperor Wang Mang in the spring of 23, when his power already waned. The Emperor wanted to prove by this marriage his confidence.

In the fall of the capital Chang'an 23 fell into the hands of insurgent peasants who had joined the rebellion of the Red Eyebrows connected. Wang Mang fell on the battlefield in front of his palace, the Weiyang lock. The further fate of the Empress Shi is unknown; Her father, however, was executed by Liu Xiu, though he had surrendered to him.
