Emsetal

Emsetal was a unit municipality in the Thuringian Forest, it is located on the Big Island mountain and belongs to the district of Gotha, Thuringia. It existed from 1996 to 2013. The places are now part of the city Walterhausen.

Location

The community Emsetal was removed from the county town of Gotha on the western edge of the district of Gotha, about 18 km ( straight line ). History

The unit community Emsetal created in 1996 through the merger of the previously independent municipalities Fischbach, Schmerbach, Schwarzhausen and Winterstein. The name of the village refers to the river Emse.

As a starting point for the colonization history of upper Emsetales the district Schwarzhausen is evaluated. The place was first mentioned in documents 787 and was connected via the Schweinaer road with the Rennsteig and the towns south of the forest. Tourism
