The Emsland -Gymnasium is a secondary school in the Westphalian town of Rheine.

History

The Emsland -Gymnasium was founded in 1853 as a girls' high school, which gave a training about up to the average maturity. The school was designated " Emsland School" in 1938, as here, a maturity examination was held for the first time. After the girls schools in the area, the church- were ( Ahaus, county of Bentheim, Lingen, Steinfurt and Tecklenburg ), had been closed by the Nazis, it was the only body that could get on the girls high school.

The school is in the logo since 1953 100 -year anniversary a cog and the colors of the city of Rheine. In 1972, she was a high school for boys and girls. Since that time a part of the southern part of the district Emsland an integral part of the catchment area of the school. 2003 the school celebrated its 150th anniversary with numerous events in which celebrity guests took part, such as Boris Becker or professional footballer Michael Ballack.

School building

The school received in 1979 a modern building. For the natural sciences are a total of ten specialist rooms. The offer is supplemented by music and art classrooms, a language workshop and a modern media center, as well as a canteen and a Secretariat.

Stumbling blocks

In Rheine have been placed on 21 April 2004 by the Cologne artist Gunter Demnig at the high school Dionysianum and the Emsland -Gymnasium, the first " stumbling blocks ". The students of grade 10 school and the Abiturientia 2004, the cost of the stumbling blocks applied, should remind one of two former Jewish classmates who were killed by the Nazis.
