Emst

Emst is a small village in the Natural Park Hoge Veluwe in the municipality of Epe in the province of Gelderland (Netherlands). There live about 3000 inhabitants in Emst.

History

Emst originated in the 17th century as a small collection of farmhouses between Epe and Oene. In the second half of the 19th century it developed into a village with its own church. A school house was built next to the church.

Tourism

Emst lies the Veluwe and therefore many people come for a relaxing holiday or for day trips. There are some campsites. Many people also visit nearby the Kröller -Müller Museum, or take the opportunity for cycling in the park. The forest areas in the vicinity are also suitable for hiking.

Important buildings and places

  • Maitreya Instituut: where courses are taught in Tibetan lifestyle.
  • Holding Emst: Early Emst was on a railway line. At the breakpoint in Emst was a pretty impressive station building. This was opened on September 2, 1887 and was decommissioned on 15 May 1938. Meanwhile, the building is canceled.
  • The Mill: It is a very old polder mill. In 1699 this mill was renewed. Even on an old map from 1634 is located at this point a polder mill. It is probably to this mill.
  • In the village is a facility where trout are bred.
