Encyclopaedia Sinica

Encyclopaedia Sinica is the name of a comprehensive English-language reference work on China, written by the English missionary Samuel Couling, which appeared in 1917. It is still valuable due to the view shown here in China at the beginning of the 20th century. The name is an analogy to the Encyclopaedia Britannica.

As the " Encyclopaedia Sinica " is in international parlance as the "Great Chinese Encyclopedia " ( Zhongguo Baike as quanshu ) referred to, which appeared in 1980-1993 in 73 volumes in the Chinese language.
