Encyclopedia of Life Sciences

The Encyclopedia of Life Sciences ( Encyclopedia of Life Sciences ) is a specialized encyclopedia with a claim to comprehensively present the knowledge of the biology and related disciplines. It comprises 26 volumes were published of which the first 20 in 2002. Six more volumes were published in 2007 as a supplement issue and include the contents of which were first published after the publication of the first 20 volumes in the Internet edition available since April 2001. Access to the product stock on the internet is chargeable. Updates and additions to the online content take place every two to three months.

The Encyclopedia contains approximately 18,300 pages approximately 4,000 articles in English. These were written by professional scientists and documents prior to publication of the external peer review by other scientists (peer review). With regard to the substantive claim three categories are differentiated, namely Introductory articles (Introduction article ), Advanced articles ( advanced products ) for specific topics and keynote articles ( Article of Basic Principles ) for controversial, new or current issues. By 2004 the Encyclopedia was published by Verlag Nature Publishing Group, since it appears the publisher John Wiley & Sons.
