Endless Summer (The-Beach-Boys-Album)

Endless Summer is a compilation of the hit American rock group The Beach Boys. It was published on 24 June 1974 in the United States by the record company, Capitol Records. The compilation reached on October 5, 1974 # 1 on the American Billboard charts.

Story to the album

At the end of the 1960s, sales of the Beach Boys were slumped dramatically in the United States. The Beach Boys tried during the hippie heyday bring about a change of image, however, were still announced by their record label Capitol Records as the "best surf combo ". With their contract expires in 1969, the Beach Boys changed their record company and signed a new contract with Warner Bros. The sales in the U.S. rebounded with the next albums, but only slowly. 1973 after their album " Holland" and the excellent with a gold record " In Concert " the Beach Boys decided to make new releases back and recover through extensive concert tours of the U.S. their American fans. Because in Europe they had huge success in 1966 with their current music since. During this tour, the band members worked on new material and yet also talked about recording a new album.

In the spring of 1974 had their old record company, Capitol Records released the idea for a new hit compilation, as their predecessors had been sold very well. The band was this project very open-minded, however, expressed the compilation Please do not "best of" or call it " Greatest Hits ". It was Mike Love, who had the idea to call the album "Endless Summer". He was also that band representative who was involved in the selection of titles.

The compilation includes a selection of 20 pieces from the years 1962-1965, the early years of the band. Of the songs " Be True to Your School ", " Help Me, Rhonda " and " Fun, Fun, Fun", the album versions and not the single versions were used.

In the U.S., the album was released as a double LP. After it was set on place 1 of the charts in October 1974, it remained a total of 155 weeks in the Billboard Top 200, it is one sold over 3 million units and three times multi-platinum the most commercially successful albums of the band.

As early as 1966 a successful surfing documentary called "The Endless Summer " was published.
