Endopeptidase
Endopeptidases include how the exopeptidases to the peptidases. Endopeptidases cleave peptide bonds within the protein enzymatically. They are usually very specific for certain amino acids.
Examples are:
- Pepsin
- Trypsin: specific for arginine and lysine
- Chymotrypsin: specific for tryptophan, tyrosine and phenylalanine
- Chymosin
- Elastase
Exopeptidases cleave peptide bonds at the end of the protein, thus removing one amino acid at a time. They are, in contrast to the non-specific endopeptidases for certain amino acids.
