Endotherm

As endothermic organism, an animal is referred to in biology, the body regulates its temperature from within.

  • Hummingbirds, platypus, large flying insects and big fish on the other hand can be seen as ektotherm and describe more or less poikilotherm because although their body temperature changes, but to a certain degree by the metabolic intensity dependent.
  • Mammals and birds are endothermic and homoiotherm because they generate through their metabolic activity of a uniform body temperature. Also, some non-avian dinosaurs were apparently able to. In principle, the increased energy consumption of the animals in comparison to, for example, ektothermen reptiles, reduces the possible types ( energy loss due to radiation ), but allows the other hand, largely independent of the weather activity.
