Endrin is an insecticide that has been used primarily in the cotton and grain cultivation. It has also been used to control mice ( rodenticide ).

Endrin is a potent neurotoxin. In the body of humans and animals endrin is less enriched than the stereoisomeric dieldrin. The half-life in the soil can be up to twelve years. For fish Endrin is very toxic.

Analytical detection

The chemical- analytical detection in environmental samples, food and feed can be performed with chromatographic methods.

Ban

In the Stockholm Convention of 22 May 2001 for a worldwide ban on the manufacture, sale and use of twelve persistent organic pollutants (POP persistent organic pollutants) was ratified. Under this " dirty dozen " is also endrin. Since 17 May 2004, the Convention, after ratification by the 50th candidate country, gained global validity.
