Enduro

Enduro Sport ( by English = endurance endurance) is the common international designation for the motorcycle off-road racing. In the Enduro Sport is less the speed matters, but the endurance and reliability of bike and rider.

History

1903 organized by the British Association of motorcyclists a 1000-mile road trip, from 1909 led an annual cross-country drive ( " The Scottish Six Days Trial" ) through the Scottish Highlands. From 1912 there was the " British six-day test for motorcycles ." On the day around 270 km long stages test tracks were built on streets with time and passage controls, terrain sections and mountain races. As of 1913, then under the direction of then- World Association FICM the first International six-day races, then organized under the name International Six Days Trial.

Despite disruptions caused by the two world wars, the Six Days of the peak are in the Enduro sport. The development and popularity of the Six Days is also crucial to the development of the Enduro sport. Until the 1960s, only slightly modified motorcycles were driven normally. With the introduction of special tests (among motocross ) the evolving in the motocross motorcycles specializations were also adopted for the Enduro motorcycles. So the bikes with longer travel suspension, higher ground clearance, high fenders, high- set exhaust systems are always off-road. Following this development, the distances were more demanding. With the inclusion of Steilauf and descents, rocky passages and the trial were sought similar passages.

Because of restrictions in terms of environmental protection and objections of the landowners occurred in Western Europe, particularly in the Federal Republic of Germany to many restrictions. So many events were marked by special tests in sand pits or similar closed-off area and then subsequent bridging driving on public roads. This development has led to the interest in the Enduro sport declined in western Germany. In the GDR there were no such restrictions. After reunification therefore sought the organizers to make the sporting events despite appropriate environmental standards demanding. Exemplary here is the Enduro race around Zschopau. With the use of oil barriers, elimination of damage after the race and an integrated environmental management is an attempt to reduce any resulting damage to the environment.

Popular is the Enduro sport today in the Scandinavian countries (Sweden, Finland), as well as France, Italy, Great Britain and the United States. In many countries, "Classic Offroad" with machines of the 60s and 80s has a large spread.

Until the crisis in motorcycle in the 1960s, most motorcycle manufacturers were represented in the off-road racing. Later, only a few manufacturers put forth appropriate motorcycles. However, originating from the countries of the Eastern bloc motorcycles from MZ, Jawa and Samson were not freely available, but usually intended only for the works teams. For Western Europe, the manufacturer Husqvarna, Maico, KTM, Puch, WSC and Zündapp were over many years of successful competitors. Only since the 1990s, also penetrate the Japanese manufacturers Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki in front of the Enduro sport. However, new specialized manufacturer of competition bikes as MotoTM, Husaberg and GasGas could gain a foothold in the Enduro sport.

Removal methods

Enduro events are held in two different modes. In contrast to motocross no mass start will take place.

In the classical form of the Enduro a given course is to pass through ( a circular route of 50 to 80 miles) mostly in a certain allotted time three to four times. When this limit is not done, there will be time penalties. In order to determine a clear winner, are on a round so-called special tests. This can be motocross or extreme tests. The times achieved in this test are added and then the resulting penalty times the end result. Is started since 2004 in the World Enduro Championship in the class E1 ( 125 2T and 250 4T), E2 (250 2T and 450 4T) and E3 ( 300 2T and 500 4T) with waiting time of one minute per three riders. Until then, the classes to 80 cc to 125 cc to 250 cc to 500 cc to 350 cc four-stroke and four-stroke 500 cm ³ were. These classifications were adapted to the needs or wishes of the producers over the years.

In an Hour Enduro ( Cross Country or Hare Scramble ) as many laps must be completed on a circuit in a given time. Usually a custom motocross track or a cordoned area is to be used. They usually last for two, six, or twelve hours.

To exercise the Enduro sport as indoor sports or on a small confined area emerged as a variant called the Enduro Cross ( Endurox ). Here, a supercross -style track is prepared with the corresponding terrain Behind Nissen. In addressing these routes also skills from the Trial sports are sometimes necessary. Also, the discharge mode corresponds to the Supercross events.
