Engelbert, 8th Duke of Arenberg

Engelbert August Anton Duke of Arenberg ( born May 11, 1824 in Brussels Palais Ducal, † March 28, 1875 at Chateau de Heverlee in lions ) was a German nobleman.

Life

He was a member of the European nobility family of Arenberg and son of the Duke Prosper Louis of Arenberg. He was Duke of Arenberg, Duke of Aarschot, Duke of Meppen and prince of Recklinghausen. In Germany, his possessions were in Prussian and Hanoverian territory. He was married since 1868 to his cousin Maria Eleonora Princess of Arenberg ( born February 19, 1845 † November 28, 1919 ). With this he had three daughters and two sons.

He stepped out, among other things as a patron. He was the last of the House of Arenberg, who still had remains of former sovereign rights in the duchy of Arenberg - Meppen. Arenberg was able master of his possessions. As such, he was a member of the first chamber of the noble court of the Kingdom of Hanover. After connecting to Prussia, he was a member of the Westphalian Province parliament. Since 1861 he was a member of the Prussian House of Lords.

His nephew Philip of Arenberg (1848-1906) worked as a canon in Eichstätt.
