Engelbert II, Count of Gorizia

Engelbert II of Gorizia († April 1, 1191 ) came from the house of my hardi African prince. He led the titles and dignities of a Margrave of Istria, a count of Gorizia, a Count Palatine in Carinthia and a bailiff of Aquileia.

Biography

Engelbert II, the son of the Count Palatine Meinhard I. and Elisabeth von Schwarzburg, competed in the footsteps of his older brother Henry II in 1150. Already in 1137 he was first documented as mentioned by Vogt Millstatt. In 1145 he was appointed the Count Palatine in Carinthia. Engelbert II had temporarily been Margrave of Istria just like his father Vogt of Aquileia, St. Peter in Istria and Millstatt as well as his younger brother Meinhard of Gorizia and Istria. The Meinhardiner was Hohenstaufen supporters.

From his marriage with Adelheid of Scheyern Valley, daughter of Count Otto I of the house of Wittelsbach, came from three children:
