Engi, Switzerland
Engi is a former municipality in the canton of Glarus in Switzerland.
The village was under the Glarus municipality reform on 1 January 2011 with the communities Betschwanden, Braunwald, Elm, Haslen, Linthal, Luchsingen, Matt, Mitlödi, Ruti ( GL), Schwanden ( GL), Schwändi, and Sool, the new municipality of Glarus Süd merged.

Geography
The municipality is located in Sernftal on Sernf, the eastern tributary of the Linth before it flows into Schwanden in the Lindth. It is the northernmost village in the Sernftal. The settlement area is elongated and consists of the parts Vorderdorf, Doerfli and Hintersdorf. The former municipality covers steep wooded hillsides, high-altitude Alps and up to 2500 m above sea level. M. high mountain peaks. History
The name is derived from the Engi Alemannic settlers. In a document of the monastery Säckingen he is first mentioned in 1350.
The congregation bought 1408 Gandalp, an alp of the country on the left Glarus Sernfufer, then we went to the big cattle with Alpsömmerung over. For personal use, especially barley was grown.
Since the 13th century the inhabitants of Engi were kirchengenössig in the neighboring village Matt. There, a church was built and blessed in 1273. In 1528 the Reformation was introduced.
