Engin Verel

Engin Verel ( born September 15, 1956 in Istanbul ) is a former Turkish football player.

Career as a club player

Verel played in youth at Davutpaşa in his Geburtststadt. In 1973, the 17 -year-old Verel moved to first division side Galatasaray. But after two seasons of the attackers went to local rivals Fenerbahce. There he remained four years. In Fenerbahçe Verel quickly became firmly established in the attack and won the 1978 national title. The following year, the team secured the National Cup.

In the same year he moved to Germany to Hertha BSC. However, he could not assert himself and changed after just one season for RSC Anderlecht. In Belgium Verel won, although the Belgian championship, but could not even there against strong competition prevail and played only three times.

Then he signed in 1981 a contract with Lille OSC. In his first season in Ligue 1, he was able to convince, and met 13 times in 31 games. But already in the following season Verel could not build on its good first season and scored only two goals. Therefore, he moved again to Fenerbahçe, where he played until his retirement in late 1986.

Career as a national player

For the U18 his country Engin Verel graduated five games. Already at the age of 18 he played for the first time for the Turkish U21, for which he ran aground a total of three times. From 1974 to 1982 he served with interruption to the A- team and brought it there on 27 missions.
